We aim to protect resident's rights to live safely and free from harm or abuse. If you think somebody is in danger or needs support due to a hate crime or harassment, please report it to us and the relevant authorities.
Hate crimes
A hate crime is any crime committed against someone because of their disability, transgender identity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.
It can include:
- threatening behaviour
- assault
- robbery
- damage to property
- inciting others to commit hate crimes
- harassment
- online abuse
Harassment
Harassment is any unlawful behaviour that makes someone feel intimidated or offended.
Persistent unwanted conduct towards someone because of their age, sex, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation is considered harassment.
It can include:
- spreading malicious rumours
- threats of intimidation
- regularly undermining someone
- face-to-face verbal abuse
Harassment can also happen electronically or in writing.
