Apply to join our Resident Services Board

We’re excited to announce that we’re recruiting up to six residents to join our Resident Services Board (RSB) from 2025 to 2026.

Helping us improve resident services

The RSB at L&Q plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of services for residents.

By challenging management, the RSB ensures that resident views and feedback are integral to our decision-making process and performance reviews.

This board is vital in holding us accountable and ensuring that we always consider your perspective in everything we do.

Frequently asked questions about our RSB membership

  • Can other members of my household apply?

Applicants who live in the property, but do not hold a tenancy with L&Q can apply, but their membership would end if and when they move out.

Two people living at the same address could not be appointed to our RSB.

If two people from the same address, or even close family members living at different addresses applied, both would be interviewed.

Each candidate would be considered on their own merits for appointment.

If both candidates were identified as appointable, both candidates would be invited to a meeting to discuss and negotiate, which applicant should withdraw and to consider other involvement options.

  • Can L&Q staff who are also residents apply?

No, there would be a clear conflict of interest for a staff member to become a Non-Executive Director at L&Q.

However, staff members who are also L&Q residents can volunteer as part of the wider resident involvement programme

  • Who selects and appoints RSB members?

There will be a formal recruitment process with the chair, a senior L&Q staff member and a board member responsible for shortlisting, interviewing and offering the role to the successful candidates.

The successful candidates will be recommended to our RSB for approval.

  • How long can a member stay on the RSB?

Members will be appointed for a fixed period of three years.

This may be extended for three years and then up to nine years annually.

  • How is the Chair selected?
The Group Board appoints chairs to all the main board committees, including our RSB.
  • When will meetings be held?

Meetings tend to be held on a Wednesday evening, with members attending virtually or in person at our West Ham Lane office in  Stratford, London.

While we expect members to ensure that they can provide sufficient time to carry out their duties effectively, we don’t want meeting times to be a barrier to membership.

This means we're open to discussing with other board members when the board meetings take place to support your participation.

  • Are there any special rules that members must follow?

The Terms of Reference (PDF) and Code of Conduct (PDF) documents are available for all committee members to read and sign.

These documents outline what is expected of the overall group and individual members.

This will include behaviour, attendance, preparing for meetings, engaging in appraisals and ongoing personal development.

  • Can members be involved in other groups?

Yes, but all members of the formal governance structure and resident involvement opportunities need to avoid any conflict of interest, which would undermine each group's purpose.

Adherence to confidentiality, the terms of reference and making any declarations of interest are the basics of good governance.

  • Will I be expected to talk about my personal life and home as a member?

You are not expected to give details of your own experience as an L&Q resident.

While you may draw on your lived experience to inform your questions and decision-making, this doesn’t mean you need to share personal information about your home life.

  • How will I be supported to fully participate as a member?

We want to make sure we remove any unnecessary barriers to becoming a member of our RSB.

Once you're ready to make your application, having read through the recruitment pack, you are invited to submit your application either in writing, video or by voice note.

If you have any questions about the application process or need support submitting the form, please email our Resident Involvement team.

Once board members have been appointed, new members will be supported with an induction. This includes the opportunity to shadow and buddy established RSB members, meet with officers one-to-one to learn more about what they do and give feedback to the RSB’s Secretariat on how we can support you in your role.

Just as with our wider resident involvement opportunities, the resident involvement team will be on hand to support your involvement on the Board, whether that is through speaking to different parts of the organisation to learn more about their work, arranging briefings with the Chair ahead of the Board meeting or preparing reports in a different format to ensure that they are accessible to you.

You will also have an opportunity to give feedback on your experience on how the Board could be made more accessible and effective through the annual appraisal process and RSB effectiveness reviews.
